Crisis to Comeback
This scenario-based elearning concept project was designed to develop decision-making skills for football club managers facing financial and operational challenges.
Overview
Audience: Newly-appointed managers in a football club
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboarding, Action Mapping, Prototyping
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, OpenArt, Canva, Google Docs
Mandalore FC (a fictitious football club) has recently faced severe financial challenges. A string of poor performances has led to a drop in fan attendance and sponsorship pull-outs. The club’s board has hired a new manager tasked with restoring the club’s reputation and financial stability.
Challenge: After analyzing the situation, I identified that the new manager must improve team performance on the field, restore fan and sponsor loyalty, and make financially sound decisions to keep the club afloat.
Solution Proposal: I proposed a scenario-based eLearning experience where the new manager can practice making decisions in different crisis scenarios.
Objective: By engaging in realistic, risk-free scenarios, the new manager would better understand how strategic choices impact the club’s stability. This training would equip the new manager to effectively navigate the club's crisis and lead Mandalore FC back to glory.
Research & Analysis
Process
I acted as the subject matter expert (SME) to develop the action map and establish the overall goal for this project. I measured progress by monitoring the club president's satisfaction survey data. Then, I identified the actions required to equip the new manager of Mandalore FC with the decision-making skills necessary to rebuild the club's reputation.
Action Mapping
Once the action map was completed, I began working on a visual-based storyboard that incorporates key actions into a cohesive narrative, utilizing my mockups to organize all elements seamlessly in a single framework.
Here, I defined the functionality for each slide and prepared to develop the interactive prototype.

Visual Mockups
I designed illustrations to visually represent each scenario and its possible outcomes and brought them to life with animations in Articulate Storyline 360. This dynamic approach uses the "Dual Channel Principle" to enhance learning by integrating visuals and animations, fostering deeper engagement and comprehension. Each element, from backgrounds to characters, is crafted with a consistent visual style to provide a cohesive and immersive experience.
By opting for a scenario-based e-learning approach, I effectively applied the "Personalisation principle."
I used Articulate Storyline 360 to create an interactive prototype using the visual mockups and storyboard to establish the scenario’s programming. The prototype consisted of the title screen, scenario introduction, mentor introduction, and the first situation’s correct and incorrect consequences.
I incorporated smooth transitions and crisp animations for each prompt and slide element to maintain narrative immersion.
The prototype includes the first implementation of the club president’s satisfaction meter which is used to visually gauge the club president’s reactions to the learner’s choices.
The full development of the scenario in Articulate Storyline 360 was straightforward and efficient now that all elements had been created and a programming framework for each consequence was established.
